Yoga Therapy
November 2021
Yoga Therapy is the adaptation of Yoga practices for people with health problems. Specific regimes combining gentle physical movement, conscious breathing exercises, relaxation and meditation are tailored to suit individual needs. Personal heath problems are fully taken into consideration.
Yoga Therapy can provide valuable support alongside conventional medical treatment. It has proved beneficial for many conditions ranging from structural problems such as back pain and joint stiffness to organic and functional diseases of any of the body systems.
Yoga as a therapy for disease takes a holistic approach working on many levels- physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. Illness disturbs the body’s natural balance. Yoga therapy enables the body to restore this balance and helps re-establish a deep sense of personal well being.
I have been teaching yoga for the past twenty five years. Over this time I have been increasingly drawn to the therapeutic and healing aspects of yoga practice. This has a valuable part to play in modern health care providing tools with which individuals can begin to take a greater degree of responsibility for their health and well being.
I originally trained with F.R.Y.O.G. in 1983 and in 2002 completed a two year diploma course in Yoga Therapy with the Biomedical Trust. My extensive experienced as a Registered General Nurse and Registered Mental Nurse has equipped me with a greater knowledge and understanding of medical conditions.
My areas of special interest are:
Nervous System Disorders (specifically Multiple Sclerosis)
Breathing Related Disorders
Women’s Health (Well Woman Yoga)
Cancer
Back Problems- Fibromyalgia/ Arthritis
